How to convert protected WMA to MP3 for iPod

"The majority of my albums are in my Windows Media Player and I would like to transfer those albums to my iPod. Now I don't know how to. All I know is that WMA is not compatible with Apple iPod. So how do I rescue my songs? I tried to use limewire to download free music but it is a mess."
If you meet the same problem, you got the right place! The following tutorial details how to put both protected and unprotected WMA (Windows Media Audio) music files to iPod.

If the WMA files you are going to play on your iPod are unprotected, you just select and drag them into iTunes Library and they should be automatically converted to whatever iPod format you selected in iTunes preferences for importing.

If they are WMA files protected by DRM, it is not that easy. You need to use some software to strip the DRM off your WMA files and then convert the WMA files to the much more widely-supported MP3 format.
Note: As with any transcoding, the quality will go down. But if you've got a lot of protected WMA files you'd like to get on your iPod, this solution would do the trick.

In this tutorial, I'd like to show how to remove DRM from WMA files and convert the WMA files to MP3 format using TuneClone Audio Converter. Let’s take a look at how it performs:

1. Settings at TuneClone

Download TuneClone (fully compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista) and install it. After launching TuneClone, click the Settings button. In the pop-up dialog of Options, you can specify the Output Folder, Output Filenames, Output Format (here we choose MP3), etc. for the output files.
Tip: You can get the output protection removed MP3 music folder by clicking the Folder button after the whole process.

2. Burning at Windows Media Player(WMP 11)

Create a new playlist and drag into it the WMA files you are going to enjoy on your iPod. After that, click the Burn button and select Audio CD from the drop-down list. On the right panel of CD Drive, click Next Drive to locate the CD drive to TuneClone's Virtual CD Burner.

Note: If you are unsure whether TuneClone's Virtual CD burner is successfully installed or where it is installed, please refer to the bottom left corner of TuneClone:

Then, drag the playlist you created just now to the Burn List and click the Start Burn button to start burning the playlist. While the burning gets started, TuneClone will automatically convert the WMA playlist to MP3 files. You can open the manager screen to show all the converted music files.
Note: If you get the output files formatted as 01-1.mp3, 01-2.mp3, etc., please click the output MP3 songs in the manager screen and drag the counterpart original WMA songs to the Track Info panel of TuneClone one by one. The information about the artist, album, title, etc. will be changed accordingly. It would be a time-consuming process if you are burning a big collection of music. However, since Windows Media Player 11 doesn't support CD-text burning, this seems to be the only way to get the information back.

After you get the output MP3 files converted from the WMA playlist in your Windows Media Player, you can now begin to transfer the MP3 files to your iPod with the sync of iTunes.

How To Use Your iPod With Your Car Stereo

As a music lover it is only natural for you to wish that you could listen to it no matter where you are or what you are doing. The car is especially where this wish comes out most strongly. It is unthinkable to get into the car and consider a drive in silence.

Well
you now have the option to iPod your car. This means you do not have to spend huge amounts of money to get your car wired for audio and you do not have to rely on someone else choosing the music for you. Your favorite music is with you wherever you go.

If you already have an audio system in your car then things are even better because you can hook in the iPod to the audio system and do away with the headphones. In some states it is illegal to wear headphones when you are driving so using the iPod with an audio system becomes a good way to enjoy music without running the risk of getting a ticket.

Newer cars are now coming out with all the necessary tools to help you plug in the iPod. BMW
Nissan
Mercedes-Benz
and Volvo are just some of the names that you will recognize who are now making cars with iPod integration options. If you do not have one of those new cars then all you need to buy is an iPod adapter.

The iPod adapters from companies like Monster or Peripheral can be installed behind the dashboard. There will be two prongs one of which will connect to the back of your car stereo and the other will connect to the iPod holding space near the front seat. The iPod adapter is a clever little device that pretends to be a CD changer. You car stereo will never know the difference. You can use the stereo track buttons to select the songs you wish to hear.

If you are not the mechanical type then it may be a good idea to get a professional mechanic to do the installation for you. It will make a lesser mess and work better. In case your car is a bit too old then the factory installed car stereo from way back then may not be compatible with the iPod adapter. If this happens to be the case then unfortunately the only remaining option for you is to first install a newer car stereo.

Sound quality is another touchy thing. While some people are happy as long as something is playing others want perfect sound quality. If you are the second type then do not go in for iPod cassette adapters because the sound quality is not good and they do not recharge the iPod. An FM modulator works better than a cassette adapter and it also recharges the iPod. However
neither of these options is as good as the iPod adapter.

To check the adaptability of your car stereo you should go through the online catalog of your car to check whether recent updates feature iPod compatibility.

How to Change the Battery in Your iPod

I love my iPod. It's the best thing in portable music since the Walkman. Remember those horrible portable CD players? Those were the worst, skipping all the time. It's nice that music has gone digital. It saves us from having to deal with stacks of Cds, tapes and records.

The downside of the iPod is that they are built to expire. iPods run io lithium ion batteries. Every time you charge your iPod's battery, you shorten its lifespan. After about 1000 or so charges, your iPod will die and you will have to buy a new one. That's not very green at all. It's so ungreen, it's red.

The good news is that you aren't powerless. You can get that old lithium ion battery out of your old iPod and put in a new battery at a fraction of a new iPod's cost.

Wonderhowto has a funny video about how this is done. But I'll explain in this article, because I like attention.

How to Replace iPod Battery

1.They have special iPod battery repair kits. These kits come with a new battery and usually a couple of screwdrivers designed for removing the end caps. I recommend buying one of these, especially if there is more than one iPod in your household. (Later on, just buy single batteries as needed.)

2.Use a hairdryer to soften up those plastic end caps.

3.Carefully pry up the end caps. The end caps have tiny hooks that fasten them to the frame. Be careful not to break them.

4.There will be a bracket at the bottom of the iPod. It is held there with screws. Remove those screws and the bracket.

5.Slide the innards out.

6.Remove the battery from its slot. Remove the connectors from the battery.

7.Replace battery. Put innards back inside. Install bracket with screws.

8.Put the end caps back on. You may need to use a small amount of glue or double-sided carpet tape to get them to firmly fasten.

9.Recycle old battery.

iPod Used In Domestic Homicide

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (HLN) - A Memphis woman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after she bludgeoned her boyfriend to death with an iPod.

Arleen Mathers, 23, was arrested Thursday morning after she called Memphis Police and said she had killed her boyfriend, according to a Sheriff’s Department report.

When deputies arrived at Mathers’ apartment at 528 Poplar Avenue, Mathers led them to the body of her boyfriend, Brad Pulaski, 27.

Brad Pulaski had died of blunt trauma to the head after being repeatedly bludgeoned with an iPod, a popular MP3 player produced by Apple.

Police said no motive has been confirmed, although evidence suggested the murder was the result of a domestic dispute after Pulaski erased the contents of Mathers’ iPod.

According to law officers, Mathers was hysterical when police arrived and told them that she killed her boyfriend only after he accused her of illegally downloading music and erased about 2,000 of her MP3s. Mathers complained that it took 3 months to build her music collection.

An autopsy performed Friday afternoon at Methodist Hospital showed that Brad Pulaski had been beat multiple times in the face and chest by a blunt metal object, and died of internal bleeding, said Dr. Felix Klamut, deputy coroner.

According to Apple’s website, the iPod is partially made of a hard metal plate that’s been praised for it’s resistance to regular wear and tear, like drops and coffee spills.

“It took him a while to die,” Dr. Klamut said. “She must have stabbed him 40 to 80 times with that iPod. His death was not instantaneous, that’s for sure”

Arleen Mathers was arraigned Friday night by a video hookup from the county jail. Municipal Court Judge Simon Lambert set her bond at $600,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 9.
